How to Connect Bunkabin Units to Power, Water and Waste

All of our units connect to electricity, water and waste and have the same connection for each service, so you can provide residents with a convenient and comfortable stay.

Each of our sleeper units has the following facilities:

  • Dual-flushing toilet
  • Large handwashing basin
  • Heated towel rail
  • Humidistat fan
  • Mains-fed shower with temperature control (not an electric instantaneous shower with fluctuating temperature
  • Thermostatically-controlled environment heated by tubular heaters

If you have any questions about connecting Bunkabin units to power, water and waste, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Simply call us on 0345 456 7899, or fill in our online enquiry form and we will get back to you.

Installing units

To give you an idea of how many units you can fit into a space, the dimensions are as follows:

  • Junior Sleeper: W: 2.870m L: 3.350m H: 2.830m (3.230m with waste tank)
  • Deluxe Sleeper: W: 2.864m L: 4.268m H: 2.830m (3.230m with waste tank)
  • Bespoke Sleeper: W: 2.870m L: 4.325m H: 2.830m (3.230m with waste tank)

When placing the units, we would recommend the following setups:

  • Side by side - when units sit side by side, a gap of around 130mm must be left to be able to unhook the low-level lifting chains. This means the distance of each unit door-to-door is three metres wide
  • Front to front - when units are facing each other, a four-metre gap must be left to conform to fire safety regulations
  • Back to back - when units sit back to back, we recommend leaving a one-metre gap to allow access to the services. If you have waste tanks installed, this may need to be slightly bigger

Connections

All of the connections for our units are at the rear. Each service is connected in the following ways:

Power

The electrical connection is via a 240V 32 amp 2P+E Ceeform blue three-pin plug.

Units can be connected to electricity either via the plug or by hardwiring the unit, which can be cheaper and quicker if you do not already have leads; however, you will be required to disconnect them prior to collection.

Water

All units require a 15mm water pipe mains pressure connection.

Waste

This is via a 110mm outlet. The shower and sink waste is connected to the toilet waste, so there is only one outlet at the rear of the units. Ideally, this would be connected to a main foul drain via the 110mm waste outlet. If this is not possible you need waste tanks. These are normally shared between two/three Sleeper units - although this is a customer preference.

Waste tanks can be hired from Bunkabin; however, these will need emptying by a third-party provider during the hire and at the end before collection.

The units sit directly on top of the waste tanks and will need a four-inch waste pipe that bends to take the waste to the adjacent water tank, which can also be hired from us.

FAQS

Do we need planning permission?

Cabins sited for more than 28 days may require planning permission. However, they are a portable structure and we advise that you speak to your local planning office before placing an order. It is the hirer’s responsibility to organise any required planning permission.

Can units double stack?
Our units are physically capable of being double stacked. However, building regulations require a six-metre gap between double-stacked units and adjacent buildings. This means there is no real space saved by double stacking. Many other issues restrict double stacking, but this is the main one.

Is insurance included in the hire rate?

Insurance is not included in the hire rate. As part of our standard terms and conditions, it is the hirer’s responsibility to arrange insurance at 200 times the weekly hire rate.

Will I get charged for cleaning?

Our guiding principle is to ‘treat customers how we would want to be treated’. The hire industry has gained a reputation for dishing out end-of-hire cleaning/damage charges. Often, these charges are routinely generated to make up for unsuitably low-hire rates. We are different. We don’t expect the unit to come back spotless and understand there will be some wear and tear. We will charge for damage but we’re sure you’ll agree that is only fair.

What power supply do I need?

All of our units, with the exception of the Junior Diner, come with a 240v 32 amp Ceeform 2P+E plug. The Junior Diner has a 240V 63A Ceeform 2P+E Blue Plug.

Will they run off a generator?

Yes, all of our units can run off a generator.

Can the delivery vehicle run on grass?

Under no circumstances should a wagon drive over grass, Murphy’s Law states that if the ground is hard during delivery it will be a muddy bog when the unit needs to be collected. Any wasted journeys will be charged at full rate.

Do we need steps?

Unless you’re using one of our waste tasks, steps will not need to be used. If steps are required, we can supply you with a suitable set, or you are welcome to use/build your own.

Are they available for sale?

We are solely a hire company. We manufacture all of our units at our purpose-built factory. When the units come to the end of their life we recycle them.

What is the minimum hire period?

You can have units for one day, if you wish; however, we have a minimum charge that would cover a four-week hire. This charge covers the costs of cleaning and testing the unit is ready to be used again.

How much notice for delivery?

We can usually deliver within a week’s notice but will always try and do better. During certain times of the year (for example, festival season), we are very busy and may run out of units.
