Not all workplaces have adequate areas for staff to rest in, particularly if your work is carried out in an unusual place, so it takes some creative thinking to find somewhere to kick back for a couple of minutes. Here, we take a look at some of the most uncomfortable and/or creative places to rest at work.
Life on the road can be tough
Truck driver Colin Howarth spends most of his time on the road and finds getting to sleep in a cab hard but necessary. One day, while sleeping in a Volvo day cab, he woke up to find he’d lost all feeling in the left-hand side of his body.

Tom Bourlet from PROCOAL is a self-confessed serial napper at work. His workplace recently built a mini studio, which is empty a lot of the time, so he takes advantage by converting into a little nap pad.
Construction workers make the most of the tools available to them
Reddit user bogmansaha once slept on a construction site on a plasterboard “desk” wrapped in a plastic bag because it was cold.

Secret snoozing
Keith White from Higher Nature once knew a colleague who created a ‘nap zone’ behind the staff lockers in the basement. He pulled the lockers forward around three feet from the wall and placed rubbish at each end to give the illusion of rubbish storage. However, there were three office chairs lined up with their backs removed, creating a sort of bed.
He would sleep down there on his lunch, and no-one knew of this until two years later when he was heard snoring!
When you just need five mins away from everyone
